The Arowana¡¦s classification and disbution

The Arowana is known as an ancient species of fish. Resembling their ancient ancestors in physical structure, the Arowana has kept its unique anatomy over the ages, earning it the appellation of "ancient fish".

The characteristics that differentiate a species are an important factor in cross-breeding.
Based on the similarities of species and desirable characteristics, people select fish that can cross-breed with the Arowana, such as Ginglymodi.

The jaw of Ginglymodi is long and upward pointing, with the upper and lower jaw, and the front of the head bone extended forward. Its body is overlaid with thick gamoid scales, which have a rhombus form. The body scales are arranged in order, protruding and coming together.

(1) Asia Arowana
There are many different colors of scales for the Asia Arowana, but all of them are the same species (the scientific name is Scleropages formosus). In the east, people call them the "Fengshui Fish. " The scale colors include red¡Bgold¡Bgreen and red-tail gold, and most inhabit South-east Asia. The water that is suitable for Arowana is somewhere between weak-acid and neutral, and the optimal temperature is around 28¡ã30¢J.The market price is influenced by the color and is always increasing; a young red dragonfish may be worth US$ 1000¡ãUS$ 2000 dollars!

(¤G) Australian Arowana
The Australian Arowana used to be known as a food fish, Barramundis, in Australia. They are similar to Asia Arowana in appearance, but most of their cirrus is very short, with some species even lacking a cirrus. Importantly, there are 32¡ã35 scales on the lateral line of the Australian Arowana, but only 21¡ã25 scales in the same area on the Asia Arowana. In appearance, this type can be divided into two species, pearl and spotted pearl Arowana.

(¤T) South American
There are two species of Arowana originating from South America, the Black Arowana and the Silver Arowana. The latter is the most common species, and the least expensive on the market. The South American Arowana is different from the species of other areas; its dorsal and anal fins are parallel and are longer than the Red and the Golden Dragonfish. They also have a pair of short pelvic fins and the color of the fins may sometimes appear red or blue.

(¥|) African Arowana
Of the Arowana family, the only representative of the Africa species is the Nile Arowana. In their natural habitat they often grow to a length of 100 centimeters.

2. Silver Arowana Scientific Name: Osteoglossum bicirrhosum Vandelli,1955
